Laborer (JO#17-015)

PAY RATE:   $9.449 


Under general supervision of the respective crew leader/supervisor. Several decisions are made daily requiring some interpretations and judgment. Position has no responsibilities for reports, records or any supervisory responsibilities. 


  • Maintain lawns at all Lift Stations or Utilities Department buildings.
  • Pick up trash, trim trees and repair fences at facilities as needed.
  • Requires lifting items 20-50 lbs in weight periodically misc. equipment, tools).
  • Must assist in lifting 100-150lbs occasionally (pumps, pipes valves, suction hoses, concrete bags)
  • Work with power tools (Ex. drill, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.)
  • May be able to operate a 15 to 30 horse power garden tractors.
  • May require working with deodorant or related lift station chemicals.
  • Ensures that city vehicle is in good condition.
  • Reports damages to any of the city facilities.
  • Work is continuous and ongoing.
  • May perform other duties as assigned for different events (Ex. Parades or City events).
  • Works in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Will perform other related duties as assigned.


City vehicles, backhoes, dump trucks, generators, hand and powered tools, ladders, hammers, compressors, two-way radio, and general garden tools (weed eaters, push mowers, chain saws, hedgers, blowers, and garden tractors). 


Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts, may involve occasional travel.  Position is subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks.  The physical demands include exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury and may works under extreme outdoor conditions. Continuous lifting of heavy materials, constant physical movement; demands physical strength associated with hard labor or forceful physical contacts.


Must have sufficient knowledge in a field to perform most normal work as assigned with little direct supervision.  Some experience preferable, but can be accumulated during 2 to 6 months employment in the position.  Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications: Class “B” CDL driver’s license, high school diploma or GED equivalent..
